Cross-country skiing

Cross-country skiing has been a tradition in Normafa for many decades.  Many famous Olympic cross-country skiers, past and present, have used the ski lodge at the end of Anna-rét (Anna Field). Vasas Sports Club routinely holds cross-country training sessions there.

There are two cross-country skiing routes in Normafa Park. The older of the two, called “MHK Circuit”, runs through the forest between Jánoshegyi Road and the Children’s Railway, following the red line on the map below. The easiest access point of this nearly five-kilometre circuit is behind Székely Gate, but it also runs near the upper station of the Libegő Chairlift. The circuit is prepared and maintained for cross-country skiing when sufficient snow falls (approx. 20 cm) using specialized equipment.

North of Anna-rét, and below the Vasas Ski Lodge, there is a cross-country training course on Szaniszló-rét. Many skiing schools hold cross-country skiing lessons on this near-level field. When ten centimetres of snow falls on this grassy, gravelly area, we prepare “classic-style” parallel runs for the beginners and a 700-metre practice circuit around the edge of the field for more experienced skiers, which includes a “classic-style” run and beside it a “free-style” run.

We request that walkers do not trample down the snow on the cross-country skiing trails we have prepared and suggest instead that they try out this winter sport themselves!

Cross-country skiing lessons and equipment are available for everyone at the Vasas Sports Club Ski Lodge next to Anna-rét.
The Vasas Sports Club Ski Lodge is open from 2:30 to 7:00 pm on weekdays and from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on weekends.
